It was a very early run for me this morning. My running partner had morning plans and needed to run at 5:00 am. I gladly agreed to join her. It has been a while since I have run in the dark. After locating my reflective vest, I sleep walked out the door. After the first few steps, I was awake and ready to run! I actually like to run early in the morning. By 6:00 am, my run was complete and I had the whole day ahead of me to get other things done. Morning running is my favorite! Morning, afternoon, or evening... Wishing you a happy run today! -Stephanie

I can be something of a worry wart by nature. I really have to tame the "what-ifs" that creep into my thoughts on a daily basis. I can usually rationalize my fears by considering what is the worst that could happen and also what giving into the worry makes me give up. For instance, running in the dark at 5:00 am scares lots of people. I have to think about what NOT running means to me and get myself out there armed with reflectors and a head lamp. I also figure that murderers are out late and sleeping at 5:00 am. Might be crazy, but it works for me! There is a dam along the Mississippi River on my regular route. I always suspected that it might be dangerous at the bottom of the dam, but recently found this sign that made me very cautious of the dam area. The thought of being trapped in an everlasting cartwheel should be enough to keep folks away from the dam! Instead of worrying about the dark, I can just focus on steering clear of the river.
What scares you just a little in your running and how do you talk yourself out of it? Have safe and happy runs this week! Missee We went to Nebraska to visit my husband's side of the family for a few days. During our travels, we usually try to see one of the sites of Omaha. On Friday we spent the afternoon in the Old Market, an area near downtown with fabulous restaurants and unique shops. Not too far from the Old Market is the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge. This bridge, built in 2008, crosses the Missouri River bridging Omaha, Nebraska and Council Bluffs, Iowa. The kids and I had done a little research before visiting Bob the Bridge. You can find Bob's website here. The video blog is pretty clever. We liked the information about the bridge and Bob's jokes. We also discovered how to go "bobbing" on the bridge. Bobbing is standing with one foot in Nebraska and one foot in Iowa. Here are my children bobbing and my husband standing in his home state of Nebraska. The bridge is pretty spectacular. It is 0.9 K long and in the middle, you can feel a slight sway. Bob the Bridge was a fun to see, free to visit, and a good reason to take a short walk. My husband and I also managed to fit in a some running while visiting Omaha. Running in a city has a downside for me...curbs. I don't like the to stop for traffic or go up and down curbs. During this visit, we ran on a path near a creek. It was great! The only traffic we met were other runners, walkers, and bike riders and no curbs.
Happy Running! -Stephanie We are in Duluth for a family reunion this weekend. My husband's grandfather is 99 1/2 and still plays tennis occasionally. He looks pretty good!I think being active is key to a healthy life. Our grandma who will be 90 soon only recently gave up golfing. I'm going to run as long as possible! Charlie and I got out for 5 miles this morning in a beautiful morning with temps in the mid 50's. Perfect 😍. Later, H and I, along with my mother-in-law took the dogs out for a nice walk along Lake Superior which locals refer to as a natural air conditioner. We stopped for tea and found this sign. We didn't see any falling snow, but were careful to keep right! Hope you get some air conditioned style weather for your runs this weekend. Happy running--Missee
Take a look at the unseasonable cool forecast for August 3. It looks like a fall forecast. Although I love autumn, I'm not ready for highs in the 60s. Luckily, it looks like the temps will bounce back a little for Friday and our lawn could use the rain predicted for tomorrow. Regardless of the season, or temperature, I love shopping (wishing) for new running gear. The new Athleta catalog arrived in the mail this week. Here are some of the items that caught my eye. My experience with Athleta clothing has been excellent. They are comfortable clothes that have been made with quality fabrics. It's fun to dream! Happy Shopping! Happy Running! -Stephanie
