Hello Everyone! The following Recap (#1) is written by Stephanie. Missee will write her recap later this week. This past weekend was spent at Quilt Camp. The four of us enjoyed a fabulous weekend of sewing, eating, running, fellowship, and fun. Quilt Camp is held at a church camp in central Minnesota. During the summer months, it is primarily home to church camp for youth. For the remaining months, the camp is open to a variety of retreats. Mom had been invited to attend a private quilt camp a few years ago. She loved it so much that she invited us to attend. We are so glad that she did! Although the camp provides some classes to make specific quilts, most of the attendees work on individual projects brought from home. We pretty much sew, eat, and pray. Missee and I also managed to get out for a run each morning. The course had a couple huge hills that were challenging. The scenery was awesome and the run was filled with laughs and conversation. Most of the weekend was spent sewing in the main hall. Missee and I were table partners and our mom (along with her friend) were at the table next to us. I would love to say that I finished all of my projects, but that would be unrealistic. I accomplished a lot more than I would have at home and had a wonderful time on retreat with a fabulous group of women.
Happy Sewing! Happy Running! -Stephanie

Snowflakes in October? Tonight was a very windy and cold cross country section meet. There were even a few light snowflakes before the race began. It was 37 degrees with a "real feel" temp of 24 degrees. The wind was gusty with a NW wind of 33 mph. The runners braved the temps and did awesome! Running is definitely a sport of physical and mental toughness. The cheering crew was cold even before the race began. The hot chocolate demand was greater than the supply in the club house. This race marks the end of another cross country season. We will start looking forward to next year! As Missee mentioned, we will be attending a quilt camp with our mom this weekend. I had great intentions of projects I would have cut out and ready to sew. Unfortunatly that prep work didn't happen, so I will be cutting and sewing at camp. I found this pattern for an apron and material to use. This will be project #1. Project #2 , #3, etc. are to be determined at this point. If the apron goes well, I might try to sew a few of those for Christmas gifts. Mainly I am looking forward to spending time with family, relaxing, and running. (Missee and I will definitely get out and run some miles before marathon sewing sessions.)
Happy Weekend! Happy Running! -Stephanie Both Stephanie and I have mentioned quilt camp periodically in our blog. Well, it is now five days til the start of camp! I thought it would be fun to do a little before and after on my projects. Keep in mind that sometimes at camp, we simply walk around to admire the work of others. That serves multiple purposes...we get ideas and provide positive self esteem boosting to our fellow campers. My projects:
Quilt camp will be a busy and fun filled weekend. Stephanie and I plan to get some running in before tackling out projects each day. Camp is located on a lake with beautiful scenery. While we are there, our internet access is very limited, but we will be snapping pictures of our girls' weekend to share on the blog later. My machine is packed and ready at the door! Happy running--Missee
My family and I are enjoying a long weekend due to MEA break. We have had a great time so far. (It's only Saturday and we intend to enjoy every last minute of vacation!) Here is snapshot of what we have accomplished so far. We enjoyed the time with family and a little getaway from our regular routine! I stumbled across this photo and article of a truck with hay bales that were on fire. I sent it to Missee since she has a fear of trucks with hay bales. It could be worse, Missee, they could be on fire! :) I have also been able to fit in some longer runs over break. I rarely have my phone with me when I run. When I do, I like to take a photo of anything unusual along my route. It's always nice to see wildlife. :) Happy Running! -Stephanie
There are three cross country running cousins in our family. They all have their conference meets this week followed by Sections for the HS kids and Regions for Blake. If you think the runners are the only ones who get nervous at the meets and a super workout after the gun, false! CC fans are dedicated 😉. David had his conference race last night. He earned All-Conference honors plus the Sabres were team champs. Mnmilesplit.com interviewed the team. The moms were very tempted to make our appearance in their video like they did for their teammate last month. We resisted the temptation although the boys would have thought it was funny. My mom sent me this photo that illustrates how enthusiastic the fans are. She titled it "with a little help from my mom." I remember feeling like I could get him going faster with gestures. Why?!?!?! Don't know. Since David is a senior, I'm sure he knows to follow the white line.
The heart art of the CC season is very busy for parents. The other captain parents and I put on a spaghetti dinner the night before the race (about 90 people), then the whole team plus families gathered for pizza after the race. Next week, we will be cooking up lasagna for the Section runners. It's good that most of us either run or work out. We need to keep up our stamina. Blake will have his last NSIC cross country meet this weekend. His races are 5 miles instead of the 5K the HS kids run. The extra distance adds a different dimension to the race. Blake loves his races the longer the better. Go Bulldogs! My next blog post will be a quilt camp preview. I think we are all getting excited for a weekend away to sew, run, rest and laugh. In the meantime, CC Mom is my #1 job! Weekends seem to fly by around here. Yesterday my children and I worked tirelessly raking, mowing, and cleaning up our yard. It was starting to look pretty good until rain began to fall. We brought eight bags of leaves out to the city compost site. We were feeling proud until... a few hours later when we retuned home from church. Apparently the rain and wind of a passing storm seemed to down enough of our remaining leaves to look as if we hadn't done any work at all. Bummer! We will be out there again soon. Saturday also included a lovely eight mile run. My running friend and I found a BRAND NEW ROUTE. After running the roads and paths in our community for the past 19 years, we actually found a new Saturday route to enjoy. Running a new route is a great way to add some excitement to a sport that can get a bit mundane. On Sunday, my daughter asked if I would run a short route with her. Yes! Of course I would love to join her. My son decided to come along also. He and I did our best to keep up with L. We ran a route that she runs with her cross country teammates. Again... it was a new route to me. Two new routes in one weekend. FUN! The three of us enjoyed a cool down walk. (Sorry for my close-up!) :) Wishing you all a fabulous week ahead! Happy Running! -Stephanie
My son recently fried his phone when he flooded his waders while hunting. I applaud his extreme patience trying to dry it out with lights and rice. Even so, the phone never came back to life. His new one came today and he was delighted to get it activated. Having him without a working phone was inconvenient for all of us. He couldn't communicate with friends and we couldn't reach him to check on him. Back when I was a kid, we just had to be trusted...maybe we earned that trust, maybe not. It does make me wonder if we are too dependent on our phones and instant communication.
I rarely carry my phone while running. I've tried to guard that time for being present while running. However, there are some things phones can do that would be helpful on the road.
I really enjoyed Missee's post from Saturday, "Any Old Reason." She is correct. We each have our own individual reasons why we run. I run for peace, mental clarity, to spend time with friends, for health, and to burn calories. This weekend included two really great runs. On Saturday, I met up with my running friend, M, for about five miles of fun and friendship. It was a gorgeous fall day! (Autumn is my favorite season!) Here a few of the beautiful sites courtesy of my small town. I came across this bench situated along the bike path near my home. I noticed something red along the top of the bench. Upon further investigation, I see that someone has decorated the top of the bench with berries. I will keep an eye on this bench to see if the design continues. Nature's beauty at its finest! On Sunday, I enjoyed a run on the treadmill + Netflix. A great way to start a Sunday morning!
Wishing you all a fabulous week ahead! Happy Running! -Stephanie When someone asks, Why run?, there can be multiple good reasons. The most obvious would be if someone is chasing you. I don't think that applies to people who run regularly, or if so, would be a stressful existence. The next most obvious would be to win. This seems to cover the younger runners and those who are super fit. We've got some of these in the family. For instance, this guy: For others, it's a good outlet for stress and mental clarity. I really mean it helps you appreciate the people in your life even when they don't deserve it. It could even be your way to stay connected with friends and make some new ones such as the staff running club I've been attending for about a year. We still have the same two members and we are the only two CSB alums on staff. Go Bennies! Whatever your reason, it is a great reason to run if running enhances your life in any way. Run soon, any reason will do! Missee
It is 61 degrees and sunny... and no cross country meet today due to weather. Our one and only home cross country meet was cancelled due to a soggy course. Our part of the state have been plagued with rain lately. The golf course was too wet to withstand the tread of the runners. For me as a runner, I don't mind the rain when my shoes are mostly dry. Wet shoes = Blisters. I prefer a little mist or rain to sun, heat, and humidity. Time for a weather survey... Which of the following weather would you prefer for an outside run or walk? I hope some dry fall weather is around the corner for us! Happy running! -Stephanie
