Good morning! I've got to get to work, but this morning's run must be on the blog. D and I got out on the streets at 4:30 AM to log 9.3 miles. We didn't actually plan for 9.3, that's just what it ended up to be. Not only was it insanely early, here is today's weather: Look at the feels like temp. That is a negative number. We dressed like sausages and both commented that we were warm enough although few times into the wind, our faces were cold. I don't feel mentally ready for winter, but apparently am physically tough enough for this. If you are out at 4:30 AM, watch out for the crazy ladies getting their long run done...or join in. Happy running--Missee

Wow! David and his buddies AKA "the Wolfpack" finished up their high school cross country career in fine fashion placing 6th in the AA race. It was a nice day for running in Northfield, but this is what we woke up to at home: After taking nearly an hour to run 6 miles with D, my husband and I opted to take the 4x4 to the race. Fortunately the weather cleared about 30 min south of town. There were 178 racers. What a start! Last year, David had an awful race at State. This year, he was ready to do much better. His finish time of 17:08 was a solid performance. He was the 5th runner on his team and placed 129th overall. After the race, he was all smiles! Here is one last team photo of the guys. One looks more muscular than the others. That's my boy! These guys have learned so much about running, teamwork, friendship, leadership and sportsmanship all while running 5K races. Four of these seven are seniors. They will be great young adults although us moms will miss them next fall! Three of these guys plus one alternate qualified for State in three different winter sports last year. That is a lot of athleticism in a small group. David is a skier...let it snow.
Thanks, guys, for making our time as CC parents our favorite way to spend our fall seasons. Here's to a wonderful season and best of luck going forward. Happy running! Missee Saturday's run looked like this. It is too early for this weather! Despite the weather, I love running on Saturdays because running in the daylight is such a treat. As the temperatures decrease, so does my motivation for long runs. I'm really starting to think about signing up for a spring race. Where to race? Half marathon? Full marathon? Did you see coverage of the today's New York City marathon? Shalane Flanagan was the female winner with the amazing time of 2 hours 26 minutes and 53 seconds. Wow! A link to a news story about her finish is here. In the following Instagram post is from CTolleRun, Minnesotans will recognize that Shalane Flanagan is pictured with Minnesota runner, Carrie Tollefson. When dreaming about a destination marathon, I looked up the qualifying standards for the New York City Marathon. Someone of my age would need to run a 3:36 marathon in order to qualify for the 2018 race. That is a bit (a lot) out of my range of possibility. If you want to check to see if you could qualify, the link is here.
Happy Running! -Stephanie Stephanie gave her quilt camp report earlier this week. We had an incredible time at Camp Lebanon. The director said this is the 28th year of quilt camps. That is a lot of sewing! I was lucky enough to go to running camp this summer. Years ago, Stephanie and I were also campers at Legionville, a training ground for school patrol officers. We were invested in pedestrian safety many years ago. We we managed to get out for a run each morning. The first day, it was still a little dark so we borrowed Mom's flashlight. It was heavy--I made Stephanie carry it til it got light and we stashed it behind a sign. We also surmised the photo would remind us of our hiding spot. Once it was light, we found Stearns County's version of Stone Henge. We had a lot of good laughs both on the run and at the sewing tables. I don't think we finished as many projects this year, but had a great time. The majority of campers seemed more interested in interacting with one another than busily sewing. We all oohed and awed over finished items. Stephanie made some cute aprons. There were lots of family groups of moms, daughters, sisters, in-laws, etc. We fit right in! This was our second quilt camp and there will certainly be a third. This weekend, both boys have big meets. Blake will run in the regional meet in Nebraska for the chance at Nationals. David will run his final high school meet at St. Olaf. I'll post State photos next week. Here is this year's varsity squad as 6-8th graders. They were at State cheering for Blake in his final HS race. Time flies when you're running!!! Best of luck and happy running to Alex, Nick, Ryan, Patrick, David, Buca (not pictured) and Zach. These are some long term running buddies! Missee
