Stephanie challenged me to answer a series of questions about our running with no right or wrong answers, all just personal opinions! The challenge reminded me of when I was a college runner and the men's team engaged in what they called "freshman interviews." Freshman runners would get an opportunity to stand in front of the group and answer a series of questions. Their favorite was always, "Ginger or Maryann?" For those of you who are unfamiliar with Gilligan's Island, Google it to find out more about Ginger and Maryann. It is easy to see why team thought a freshman's pick on that question was telling about their personality. Here are my answers: 1. Outside or Treadmill? I need the fresh air of an outside run for my mood, plus I do not have any treadmill access right now. If I wanted to do treadmill running, I guess I would seek that out. 2. Rain or Wind? Rain for sure. I am quite positive that I am not sweet enough to be made of sugar, so just tough it out in the rain. Strong wind can make it hard to hear when running with a friend, too. 3. Crew socks or Low Cut? Low cut socks for me. I do try to find the ones with a heel tab so they don't slide down or cause any blisters. 4. Hat or Ear Band? Ear band until it gets really cold and then hat...maybe both when it is extremely cold. I have a number of different colors and patterns of ear bands that I made, so it adds a little fun to my outfit even if no one on my route notices. 5. Morning or Evening Run? Always morning for sure! Get up and get it done!!! 6. Race or Casual Saturday Run? Both??? I like the excitement and challenge of an occasional race. I do around 6-8 per year of varying distances. However, a long run on Saturday mornings has it's own appeal. I love them both. 7. Gu or Gatorade? Gu although I was totally shocked that Stephanie gave the same answer. The first time she tried Gu, she called me afterward to tell me that she never knew I enjoyed the taste of Vaseline! I don't carry liquids with me when marathon training, so I eat a Gu packet and grab a drink at a water fountain along my route. My favorite flavors are Salted Caramel, Mandarin Orange and Vanilla. One time I bought a variety pack and liked playing "grab bag" in my pocket and not knowing what flavor would be next. Perhaps I need to explore my definition of fun??? 8. 5K or 10K? I agree with Stephanie that the 10K allows a runner to back the pace off just enough to be more comfortable. My oldest son runs both distances in track and looks forward to the 10K outdoors for the same reason. If backing off from 4:55 to 5:10 per mile is more comfortable for him, at my speed it should be heavenly! Just yesterday, I found a similar set of questions on a running blog. Count the number of items you can say you have done and give yourself a score. I scored 12, which I'm not sure if that is good or bad!?! Stpehanie and I have been completely jealous of our mom this weekend. She is back at quilt camp and although we were invited to go, we both decided we had too much to do at home. Now that she is there and sending us photos and recaps of all the fun she is having, we are second-guessing our choice. Here we are at camp last fall: Care to Comment?
1. Answer our 8 This or That questions so we can get to know you! 2. What was your score on our 20 point mini quiz? 3. Should Stephanie and Missee attend quilt camp next time? (Last time, we did get a nice run in on a country road along Lake Beauty...until we saw a big dog, then Missee pulled a muscle turning around too fast...a story for another time!) Happy running! Missee and I decided to start this blog in 2017 to share our love of running with anyone who chose to read the blog. It is March and I am already wondering what I should blog about. Suddenly an idea came to me... how about a series of "this or that" questions about running that both Missee and I complete so that you get to know us as runners?
This or That? 1. Outside run or Treadmill? BOTH! I actually really like to run outside (with a running friend) and treadmill runs. For treadmills, it has to be a solid, running treadmill and some Netflix. 2. Running weather: Rain or Wind? I would choose rain over wind. The sun was shining today, but the wind was COLD. Also, the wind can only be at your back for part of the run. 3. Ankle Socks or Low Cut Socks? Ankle socks. It may not look as nice as the low cut sock, but I am bugged when my sock slips down into my shoe and blisters form. 4. Hat or Ear Band? I prefer wearing an ear band, but a hat keeps me warmer. I also wear a hat with a brim from April to October to protect my skin from the sun. 5. Morning or Evening Running? Morning!!!!!!!!! 6. Race or Casual Saturday Run? Casual Saturday Run. Although a race once in a while is good motivation for logging in longer runs, I really enjoy running for fun, fitness, health, and happiness. 7. Gu or Gatorade? Gu??? I use Gu for marathon training. It is really important to fuel your body for long runs, but the taste and texture make it a challenge for me to eat. My running friend and I have tried several flavors. Some are better than others. My latest favorite flavors are plain and vanilla. 8. 5K or 10K? I like the 10K. A 5K seems like a fast race for me. I prefer to run longer at a more comfortable pace. Okay, Missee! Now it is your turn to answer these questions. (I didn't give her any warning about this.) I'm looking forward to reading her answers! How would you answer these questions? Please feel free to leave your answer to any or all of the above questions in the comments. Just click "Comments" found below the title of this post. -Have a happy Saturday! -Stephanie My pick for favorite running base layer is from one of my favorite online stores... Old Navy. I buy a lot of my running gear from Old Navy and Gap. Both online stores offer many styles in tall sizes. Although I am 5'7", I have a long torso and like to buy tall sized shirts. When running, the extra length allows me to tuck in the shirts which adds comfort and warmth. The Go Dry Seamless Performance Tops for Women is one of my favorite base layer shirts. I also really like the Gap Fit Breathe long sleeve tee. I enjoyed the pictures of Missee's running shoes in Monday's post. :) I also really like her suggestion to write the date in your running shoes. I record the date of when I am due for new running shoes in my family's online calendar. (Our family uses Cozi.)
