I picked up my custom orthodic shoe inserts yesterday. The orthodics are intended to support my high arches and to take pressure off of the sesamoid bones so that running longer distance will be less painful for my feet. While fitting the orthodics in the Brooks Glycerin 14 shoes that I purchased at the orthotist's office, it was determined that I needed to increase my shoes size by another half of a size. If you read my previous post about orthodics, you will know that orthotist had recommended changing my shoe size from and 8 to a 9. Now, I am in a 9.5. Just kidding... These are not my new running shoes. I am really glad to know that I have been running in the wrong size shoe. Getting into the right size could make a lot of difference. I tried wearing the orthodics for the first 5.5 miles of my run today and I am very happy to report that my feet felt good. I switched into my old shoes for the second part of my long run. Below is a photo of the insert that comes in the running shoe (top) compared to the orthodic shoe insert (bottom). Hopefully you can tell from the photo that the arch is greatly supported by the orthodic. Just a reminder... Don't forget to enter our first ever blog giveaway.
