Tis the busiest season of the year! I'm off to get some Christmas shopping done today, but wanted to write a quick post. Earlier in the week, we had our first "Snow Day." Schools were let our early for the day due to an approaching winter storm. The first flakes of the day were the largest I had ever seen. It looked like mini snowballs falling from the sky. I don't think I could quite capture the size of these snowflakes on my window, but here was my attempt... I am grateful to report that after one day with spikes on my running shoes, our roads are one again clear from ice. Winter running is so much easier on clear roads! This morning, my long run was done in two parts. I ran for 30 minutes on the treadmill before heading out for another 45 minutes with my running partner. When all was said and done, I think I ran a total of 8 miles. The long run felt great! (I'm about 75% sure that a spring marathon is going to be on my calendar very soon.) Although my phone said I covered 9 miles, only about eight of that was running. I opted to not use a timer or the run mode on my watch. Some days, I don't need the data... I just want to enjoy the run. May your miles be merry and your roads clear of ice! Happy Running! -Stephanie

Last Saturday was the annual Snowflake Shuffle at CSB. This year's beautiful weather made for a fun and festive atmosphere. People did not have to wear too many layers or watch for icy patches and the costumes were easily seen. I believe that the majority of runners wore some sort of holiday gear. Deb, Mom and I all participated in the 5K race. At the starting line, my husband asked Mom if she wanted Charlie to join her. She remembered that Charlie has better behavior when he gets a solid amount of exercise and let him join her. Here they are headed towards campus. Once Deb and I finished, we walked back to find Mom and Charlie. The very enthusiastic CSB Track girls were having a blast cheering for runners and directing traffic along with playing games. Here we are approaching the finish area. At the awards ceremony, we won prizes for our gingerbread family outfits. The back of the shirts say, "Run, Run, Fast as You Can." With any luck, Stephanie and family can run with us next year and make our group larger.
I give the Snowflake Shuffle high marks for a positive atmosphere, friendly volunteers and fun prizes. Age group winners receive gift cards or t-shirts. There are tons of door prizes and lots of hot chocolate for finishers and fans. This race is also dog and stroller friendly if either of those would make it easier or more fun for you to participate. As far as my run, it was good. I rocked the first 2 miles and struggled a little in mile 3, but that was fine. I enjoyed the race and will definitely do it again next year! Hope to see you there happily running! Missee Ill close the post with Charlie's post race nap photo. Isn't it a great feeling to finish the project that has dragged on and on? I bought a kit to make this quilted tree skirt at least 16+ years ago after. This kit has moved with me to five different homes. When I make a move, I view it as a time to get rid of anythings not worthy of boxing, carrying, moving, and putting away. If this quilt kit survived five moves, it was worth finishing.... and today it was finished. :) I can finally cross it off my holiday To-Do list! Now that the tree skirt is finished, I have some other holiday To-Do items on my list. I have barely started with Christmas gift shopping. Have you found that special Christmas party outfit? Lauren and I found this fancy suit. During the holidays, it is more important than ever for me to make some time for running. It eases the stress and calms the mind. Make sure to add running or exercise to your holiday To-Do list. You will be glad that you did! Happy Holidays! Happy Running! -Stephanie
I was recently introduced to Ebates by my mother-in-law. The concept is so simple that it seems to good to be true. When shopping online, log into the Ebates site and see if that merchant participates. Then click to get sent straight to their site. If I've already had the merchant site open and items in my cart, they are usually still there going through Ebates. Each site has a different cash back incentive which arrives via check every few months. Last night I was browsing Holabird Sports for running shoes and found David's and my models on close out special. Then when I logged into Ebates, they had a code for an extra 10% off, free shipping, and 2.5% cash back. In the end, I got 2 pair for about $158. Running shoes are expensive, but so important. If I can avoid spending too much, I feel better about replacing when it's needed. If you have have not tried Ebates, let me refer you! Use the link below to sign up. We will both get a cash reward! www.ebates.com/r/MISSEE54?eeid=37137 If at least three readers sign up, I'll sponsor a blog giveaway in time for Christmas. If you are already an Ebates user, please comment about your best savings. If I'm the last to the Ebates party and we get lots of comments, I'll still sponsor a giveaway 😉. My new shoes are super cute. Online shopping helps preserve your running time during the holidays. Saving a little money means more cash for some "Merry Christmas to me" while you shop LOL. Happy running! Missee
