This week is the beginning of the end of summer for me. Each year, foodservice professionals from all over Minnesota gather for 4 days of educational sessions, motivational messages and viewing new products to feed the kids come September. This year's MSNA Annual Conference is being held in Rochester, MN. Here is the conference theme and logo: It takes the work of many members to make this conference valuable and enjoyable for members. I was the Workshop Chair this year which meant I headed up a committee that selected and scheduled the breakout sessions on each day of the conference. So far it seems that the members have enjoyed the choices of sessions and have stayed in classes lasting until 5:30 in the afternoon...sometimes folks seems to wander off by mid afternoon :-)
Each day while we've been here, I have ventured out from our hotel for a run before the day's activities. Rochester's Mayor told us at the opening session that the city boasts over 100 miles of biking/hiking trails. I have enjoyed the segments I ran along the river near downtown. It was great to see that these trails are well used by locals and visitors. I would be nervous to use a trail that felt isolated; these are out in the open and I probably saw another person walking, running or biking around every 2-3 minutes. Great job, Rochester! In addition to some running, Mom and I decided to walk to a local quilt shop just under 1.5 miles from the hotel. On the way, we talked about that whatever we bought, we would have to carry it back, so we should not buy anything large. That turned out to be easy because when we got there, the quilt shop was empty and closed. Bummer!!! It was a nice day for a long walk anyway and a fun trip. Tomorrow is our last day of conference and then it's back home. Soon I will be in the office almost daily after having about a month of stopping in the office around once a week. Summer is fun, but it will also be nice to reconnect with the school kids. They bring a lot of laughs and smiles to my day! In the meantime, I'll enjoy running in the daylight. Happy running! Missee
